Rummy Glossary

Deal – Act of distributing the cards to the players.

Dealer – Person responsible for dealing the cards.

Deck – The standard rummy deck contains 52 cards, without jokers.

Discard – Players are required to discard one card, placing it face up on the discard pile, when the players turn ends.

Discard pile – After forming the stock pile, the top card from the stock pile is removed and placed face up next to the stock pile and becomes the first card of the discard pile.

Draw – Each player in turn, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer draws. The player must draw from the stock pile or the discard pile.

Go down – End the play by placing all cards from your hand face up on the table.

Going out – A player goes rummy, and wins by getting rid of all of the cards he holds in his hand. This can be done by either melding, laying off or discarding.

Go out – To get rid off all the cards in the hand.

Group or set – Three or more cards of the same rank.

Laying off – If a player has a meld on the table, he can add additional cards to existing matched set on the table formed by you or others. These additional cards must form another valid meld.

Melding – From your hand, you place a valid combination of cards face up on the table in front of you. These cards can be a valid sequence or group.

Sequence or run – Three or more cards of the same suit in consecutive order or increasing valeue..

Stock pile – After shuffling the deck and dealing the cards, the remaining cards are placed face down at the center of table forming the stock. Players draw cards from the stock pile. Red club
